CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST
CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST
by A.B. Simpson
"Spiritualism (witchcraft) pretends to bring to life the spirits of the dead. A dead father "appears" to his son and "speaks" to him and tells him things that nobody else could know. The son believes it is his dead father speaking and that he is alive. But it is a lie. The father is dead. This is just one of the devil's lies. A demon impersonates that father and with supernatural power paints in the air the appearance of the one who died and speaks as if from his lips. It is a work of Satan the Deceiver. What is the remedy? Refuse to recognize it. Reckon it dead. Tell it to its face that it is not the dead father, but a demon, and it will immediately disappear. There is one thing Satan cannot stand - and that is to be ignored and slighted. He lives on attention and disappears when resisted. So if you resist that manifestation of spiritualism and refuse to accept it, you will find that it disappears and has no power to continue. It is wholly dependent on the agreement of your will.
This is a fine illustration of dying with Christ. You surrender yourself to Christ and your old man is crucified, so that you might henceforth live as one born from heaven. Suddenly, some of your old evil traits reappear. Old thoughts and evil tendencies assert themselves and say loudly, "We are not dead." Now if you acknowledge these things and fear them and obey them, you will surely give them life and they will control you and drag you back to your former state. But if you refuse to recognize them, and say, "These are Satan's lies, I am dead indeed to sin. These do not belong unto me. They are deceptions of the devil. I reject them", God will detach you from them and they will be dead to you. You will discover that they were not a part of you at all, but simply temptations that Satan tried to throw at you and weave around you. This is the remedy for the workings of temptation and sin.
It is an awful fact that when one considers himself wicked he becomes wicked. If a child of God doubts his acceptance by his heavenly Father and imagines that he sees an angry frown on his Father's face, then he will have no more desire to be holy. Instead, he will sink into disobedience, discouragement and sin."
